SMR, the UK’s leading soil stabilisation specialist, has been shortlisted as a finalist in three of the categories of the New Civil Engineer’s Festival of Innovation and Technology ‘TechFest’ Awards, with the winners scheduled to be announced at an event at the Hilton Bankside in London on 14 September.
The Awards, run in conjunction with the Institution of Civil Engineers, are designed to showcase the best technology-led innovations that are driving civil engineering forward and SMR has been designated a finalist in all three categories that it entered:
• Supplier of the Year,
• The Innovation of the Year (smart materials),
• The Best use of Technology (carbon reduction).
“We were absolutely delighted to have been named a finalist in each of the three TechFest categories that we entered,” stated Andy Bareham, Technical Support Manager for SMR (UK) Ltd. “Our Structural Material for Reinstatement (SMR) product is rapidly becoming the solution of choice for many in the construction and civil engineering sectors. Not only does it divert millions of tonnes of waste spoil material from landfill but it also delivers massive cost savings over traditional reinstatement processes as well as reducing the carbon footprint of groundwork projects.”
He continued: “SMR is a real innovative game changer which is what the awards were designed to identify and promote. Being named finalists in all three categories of these prestigious awards was totally unexpected, will only help raise awareness and we eagerly await the final announcements on the awards in September.”
SMR is one of today’s single most important SMART materials, making significant and innovative changes to the civil engineering industry; reducing cost, waste, a dependency on virgin aggregates, plus the need for landfill, whilst drastically helping reduce the carbon footprints on all projects.
In addition to manufacturing the award winning SMR reinstatement product, SMR (UK) is significantly increasing the number of locations around the UK where the technology used to blend the SMR additive with excavated spoil is available. Its national network of recycling ‘HUB’ partners each have the necessary mobile screeners, Batch-Mix equipment and specially formulated additive available, which enables them to offer customers with ready mixed and recycled sub-base from the excavated spoil as well as the ability to relocate the process to a customers’ site further reducing transport movements, the carbon footprint, time and costs.
The New Civil Engineer’s Festival of Technology is an exciting new gathering for thought-leaders, decision-makers and emerging minds from the entire built environment community enabling them to share and scrutinise the latest technology-led innovations that are set to make a mark on the industry. The Festival combines awards, live judging, conferences and networking, with 50+ thought-provoking speakers and facilitators providing civil engineering knowledge and inspiration and reaches a global audience of 80,000+ professional engineers.
