SMRUK VS Contaminated Land

No, it's not this summer's biggest blockbuster film its something SMRUK tackle regularly & always come out on top.

We have found in our 20 years + of business many sites across the country have a range of polluting substances present in concentrations above background levels and are therefore categorised as contaminated land.

With increasing pressure now being applied to reuse these inner-city industrial sites or redevelop contaminated rural or semi-rural locations, SMR has developed an effective remedial solution that safely locks the contaminants away; delivering commercial benefits to all parties.

While removal of certain materials and spoil from the site for disposal elsewhere in landfills is one option, this is often costly; however, SMR can frequently be used to cost-effectively remediate most sites, making them safe for construction or reuse.

SMR has proven repeatedly that it can be used to encapsulate contaminants in the contaminated spoil. This enables the client to re-use the existing contaminated spoil on-site by reducing the leachability of the contaminates in the spoil to safe levels. The contaminated spoil can then be used as a structural material that will outperform traditional backfill materials. With the small number of non-hazardous landfill sites remaining and even fewer hazardous landfills available, the SMR solution cuts out huge transport distances and even larger disposal costs.

Accredited testing houses are also used to analyse samples and ensure that contaminants are securely contained. This is done in addition to the rigorous testing SMR employs as part of its regular operations.

Previous projects where SMR product has been successfully used to encapsulate and stabilise contaminated land include a host of industrial sites, several commercial sites where large storage tanks have been located, immediately around landfill sites plus several defence sector sites. The solution has also successfully been used in many rural locations where contaminants in the soil have been identified.

As an example, SMR has been used on the following contaminates and constantly proved successful in encapsulating...

  • Heavy Metals

  • PAH

  • TPH

The use of SMR on remediation projects has resulted in massive savings being achieved compared to other methods.
